Tweeddale Primary School

Headteacher’s Welcome

I am delighted to welcome you to the Tweeddale Primary School website.  We are a happy and nurturing school with a passion to unlock the potential in every child to ensure they progress, achieve and succeed.

Our vision is summed up in four words: "High aspirations - broad horizons."  We have a clear set of values to drive forward our vision, which make up the word ASPIRE: Ambitious, Safe, Positive, Inclusive and Enthusiastic.

I am honoured to lead a school with an outstanding team of dedicated staff who live out these values every single day. I hope we will be able to welcome you in person to our wonderful school soon, so you can see first hand everything that we have to offer.

Jonathan Walters   BA (Hons), PGCE, NPQH, Headteacher

History

Tweeddale is located at the heart of the St. Helier Estate. It is named after Lady St. Helier who was a London County Councillor and Alderman – her special interest being the improvement of conditions for the poor. The estate was designed as a garden estate incorporating parks and open spaces, and public facilities. Tweeddale is built on land once owned by the Miller family who were nurserymen and market gardeners. They grew lavender, watercress and herbs.

In 2003, the infants and junior schools merged to become a primary school with nursery provision. The merged school has been based on the Tweeddale Road site since then and the infants school was demolished to make way for housing.
